Another thing we tried to do was reduce our waste and rubbish. One of the biggest problems that we couldn't reduce was yogurt pots. It's good for you and I eat it every day. that means one plastic pot to landfill every day. We also had a surfeit of jam (the allotment was going great guns so we had gallons of the stuff and I don't eat it very much.) Bingo a light bulb moment of sorts when I realised that we could make yogurt in reuseable pots and flavour it with jam and also save money.
The way it works the yogurt costs about 9 euro cents plus power per pot! A friend gave me a n old yogurt maker but you can also make it in a flask.
All I do is use a litre of UHT milk to make two batches. put 500ml in a jug and heat in the microwave for 1.5 minutes. then stir in two big table spoons of yogurt. Pour into siz small pots inteh yogurt machie and leave for five hours. the next batch is started with a spoon of the previous yogurt. no more plastic pots!
